Women of Juarez

I chose to do my exploratory assignment on femicide in Ciudad Juarez. Since the mid-1990s hundreds of women have been getting murdered in Ciudad Jaurez without reparations. The numbers have gotten so high that when news stories report these murders they just report “X amount of bodies were found”, we’re hardly ever given the names of these victims. These missing and murdered women are more than just a tally mark on the ever-growing list of all the victims from femicide. They are human beings who deserve to be remembered in a beautiful light and not be remembered as victims or by their gruesome killings. I made a crossword puzzle with the names of 12 women who we’ve lost to femicide this past year, and the “clues” are descriptions given by their families on how they want their loved ones to be remembered. I included the answers in the crossword because this really isn’t a crossword puzzle that anyone could do. I just wanted to bring awareness and name some of the victims and share how their families viewed them. I got most of my information off Instagram @noestamostodas.
