The Masi farm in Danube was the first to install a bulk __ tank in the county in 1956 made by Cherry-Burrell. The tank, which cools the milk in stainless steel vats until pick-up time, replaced the 40 quart can.
The Nowadaga __ was established in 1913 and has been a site for community meetings, fundraisers, dances, card parties, and celebrations for the town. The Hall is still used today.
Bessie Snell Schuyler (1885-1978), lifetime resident of the town, was active in saving #15 Down. She was the church __ and gave music lessons to people traveling by houseboat on the Barge Canal.
Finck's Basin Bridge was built by the Manheim Bridge Company who were given the right to acquire land for approaches to the bridge and have a toll house. A restriction was imposed, however, in that the bridge company was not permitted to charge toll to
persons going to or from __
meetings.
Danube was formed from the town of Minden in __ County in 1817 and added to Herkimer County.
A popular stopping spot in the early 1800s was Finck's __. Here Finck entertained up to 40 guests a night. He served them food and liquor and had beds available, even though some slept on the barroom floor on their overcoats or blankets.
The only __ historic site in the county is the home of General Nicholas Herkimer, purchased in 1913 by the state.
The West Shore Railroad went through the town, now used as a nice __ trail along the canal.
A 60 foot high __ to the famous General was approved to be built by the state in 1895. Many members of the Herkimer family lie in the burial plot. It was dedicated on Nov. 12, 1896 under the direction of St. Patrick's Lodge, No. 4, Free and Accepted Masons, of Johnstown, of which body the General was a member.
The first Finck's Basin Bridge was built in 1828 over the Mohawk River connecting the towns of Danube and __. Previous to this a ferry was operated by Andrew Finck (1784-1872) to make the crossing. The last bridge to be there was closed in 1982 and torn down a year later.
Believed to be the only surviving Anglican colonial mission to the Indians in North American - Indian __ Church. It was constructed in 1769 through the efforts of Sir William Johnson, British commissioner to the Indians prior to the Revolution.
