Frederick Smith (1826-1901) of Norway cast his first __vote in 1848 for Gerrit Smith, the "Liberty ticket," and was the only vote in town for the great abolitionist.
John (Jack) Grannis of Herkimer was the last __ of a slave mother owned by Hezekiah Talcott in Herkimer County. He died in 1898.

It was known later that Judge Graves, the doctor's father, was a participant in the Underground Railroad.
