KIDNEY ANOMALIES

Indentations between the calyces of the kidneys. Appears sonographically as lobulations of the renal cortex.
One kidney or no kidneys.
Most common congenital anomaly of the urinary tract.
These kidneys do not properly rotate and ascend during fetal development, results in both kidneys being located more inferiorly and on the same side. The majority of these kidneys will be fused at the poles.

Fusion of the lower poles of the kidneys during fetal development. The isthmus of the kidneys lies anterior to the great vessels and may mimic a mass. Appears sonographically as normal renal parenchyma crossing midline.
The presence of the renal pelvis outside the confines of the renal hilum. Appears sonographically as a large cystic area at the renal pelvis.
More than 2 kidneys.
It is a cortical bulge that occurs more often on the lateral border of the Lt kidney. Appears sonographically as an isoechoic bulge.
