Prepare for AFTERSHOCKS. Move items that are likely to fall or move during an aftershock to a safer location
When you feel an earthquake, the first thing to do is LOOK. Look around! Look above! See what could hurt you; what could save you from injury. Get your bearings on your next move.
After an EARTHQUAKE, BMGH must maintain a plan for hospital operations for 72hr, to ensure the continuum of care for patients, visitors, and casualties of the event.
It is the national standard for Long Term Care Facilities to have at least 72 hr. of FOOD and Water. But 96 hr. is recommended.
BMGH Staff and Residents may need to SHELTER in place until help can arrive.
Ground shaking can cause damage to gas lines which may start a FIRE.
Provide assistance to those in need based on TRIAGE results and availability of trained staff and supplies.
Sometimes Earthquakes can trigger LANDSLIDES.
Know where your closest EMERGENCY EXITS are
Grab the FIRE EXTINGUISHER and look for fires or possible gas leaks.
Find cover and DUCK under a desk or sturdy table. Stay away from windows, bookcases, file cabinets, heavy mirrors, hanging lights fixtures, and other heavy objects that could fall. Watch out for falling plaster or ceiling tiles.
BMGH may experience a SURGE of patients and victims after the Earthquake.
Do not flush toilets or use running WATER until informed it is safe to do so by Maintenance
Earthquakes may impact the STRUCTURAL integrity of the facility.
MANAGERS are to report damages/injuries to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
