Patterns between adults and children that a student depends on with repetition. Three specific types are: Achievment-supported, responsiblity-freedom, and loyaly-commitment. This is a key aspect of Social Factor Theory.
Erikson's idea that there are 8 stages to human psychosocial development. Stages build on top of the one before it and one stage must be mastered before moving to the next stage. All 8 stages revolve around a basic social conflict that the student must understand and master.
Many immigrant students struggle with this aspect of encountering a new culture. It is important for teachers to also do this (the missing word) towards their immigrant students with the intention to make the student feel less lonely and to provide the same "basic" care mentioned in this chapter. Not just immigrant students feel isolation from new cultures and school environments. Students of all backgrounds and levels of human and social development must do this to connect with adults and peers in the school setting. It is important as a teacher to understand this process and support it to the best of your abilities while knowing that each students basic needs may need to be met in a different way.
Research has shown that for students to fully use all the capabilities of their brain they must understand and be taught on how the brain works. If students are aware of what is going on in their brain and how they can improve their own learning they are more likely to put in effort and practice using their brain in a "new" way.
Punishing others for what was done to them. This could be the teacher, peers, or parents. It can also be seen through the students work ethic and attitude. It is not always expressed vocally or in a dramatic behavioral form. It would be as simple as a student not trusting their teacher as much as they did prior to the situation.
Down
A form of attention that students request through behavior with the goal to feel part of the group. If this form of attention is not recognized, with time the student will expect failure in their work and behavior. This form of attention is not as noticeable as other, more common types of attention behaviors.
Reacher who concluded that students need to feel trust, accomplishment and personal involvement to consider their needs 'met'. A student must feel that they are in control of something in their life before they will let others have power.
Believed that a students basic needs must be met before being able to expect that student to function academically. Also created a hierarchy of basic human needs. Created a theory saying that students have a biological need to be accepted and their basic needs can not be met (including acceptance) without the help from others.
The teaching of content in a form that appeals more towards European American students. This does not create an environment where all students are engaged and excited to learn. This form of presenting the curriculum also distances students from wanting to learn. This is one of the reasons that students of color may not succeed as well as white students.
