SAILING BASICS

Across
Are used to secure lines.
The front of the boat.
Pull in the sheets.
Pull sails in and let them out.
The back of the boat.
The right side of the boat.
The position where you stop sailing by easing and pushing the tiller towards the sails until they luff. THE SAILS ARE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BOAT.
Attaches to the back bottom corner of the sail and pulls it out along the boom when tightened.
How you hold the tiller extension.
Down
Look like pulleys that lines go through.
Holds the boom down.
The left side of the boat.
You can't sail here. Your boom is in the middle of the boat and your sails are luffing. You may start moving backwards.
Raise and lower sails.
Let out the sheets.
The stern turns through the wind as you pull the tiller away from the sail.
Attaches to the front bottom corner of the sail and stretches the front edge (the luff) of the sail down towards the boom.
The bow turns through the wind as you push the tiller towards the sail.
