Across
the tone/mood of a piece of writing

In literature, a feeling, emotional state, or disposition of mind--especially the predominating atmosphere or tone of a literary work
A poetic device in which a word in the middle of a line rhymes with a word at the end of the same metrical line. "I silently laugh at my own cenotaph"
rhythm
it refers to a line consisting of four iambic feet.
a short poem or verse that seeks to ridicule a thought or event, usually with witticism or sarcasm
having the form and musical quality of a song
Down
the use of concepts/ideas that are contradictory to one another, yet when presented together hold significant values on several levels.
a speech given away from the action – usually provides reader/viewer with extra information about the character
specific part of a ballad – a chorus is an example – ex// a stanza is to a poem like a paragraph is to an essay.
stanza of four lines (quad = four)
expression in spoken or written words, or by other means
where a word is used in a manner to suggest 2 or more possible meanings. Ex// One egg is enough = one egg in French is un ouef
a verse line consisting of three metrical feet

Using contradiction in a manner that oddly makes sense on a deeper level. Simple or joking examples include jumbo shrimp, sophisticated rednecks, and military intelligence. The richest seem to reveal a deeper truth through their contradictions and are often called paradoxes: "without laws, we can have no freedom."
