Was a Ranger catcher from 1985 to 1987. He was an Academic All American at UCLA in 1979, and also hit .428 that year which was a UCLA single-season record until 2001.

In his first major league start with the Rangers, he faced five batters and gave up two walks, a single and two home runs without retiring a batter. In his second major league start (with the White Sox), he pitched a no-hitter.
Played in 98 games for the Rangers in 1976. Less than ten weeks after the final game of the season, he passed away from leukemia. In the 1977 season, the Rangers wore a black armband with the No. 4 on their left uniform sleeve in his honor.
