A first-round draft choice of the Rangers in the 1972 MLB Draft, he became the Rangers starting 3rd baseman in 1975 and in 125 games hit .251 with 10 HRs and 51 RBI.
Was a relief pitcher for the Rangers from ‘86 to ‘88, and earned his nickname “Wild Thing” during that time.
An original Ranger, moved with the team in ‘72 from Washington and stole 51 bases in that inaugural year (which is 1 shy of the Ranger season record to this day).
Always a Ranger killer, he had a 44-game hitting streak against the Rangers from ‘04 to ‘06. He signed as a free agent in ‘10 with the Rangers and proceeded to hit .300 with 29 HRs and 115 RBI, earning him a Silver Slugger Award.
Played the majority of his career with the Angels and is a member of the Angels Hall of Fame. Played his final 2 years in Texas in ‘91 and ‘92 as the DH.
Was backup catcher for Rangers in ‘95 and ‘96 and is credited with calling a players only meeting in ‘96 that helped the struggling team make a turnaround and eventually win the AL West title.
In 1992, he had 99 RBI, 92 of which came from the 9th position in the batting order, a MLB record.
A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame (elected in 1991) he pitched for the Rangers in ‘75 through ‘77 and again in ‘80.

Was the starting center fielder for the Rangers in ‘96 and was a big part of their first AL West title that year.
Holds a major league record by appearing as a pitcher in 13 consecutive games from Aug. 6-20, 1986 for the Rangers.
Got the final 3 outs in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, sending the Rangers to the World Series for the first time.
In 2011, he was 16–5 with a 3.95 ERA and led the AL in shutouts with 4 (tied for fifth-most in Rangers history). And in addition was the winning pitcher in Game 4 of the World Series that year.
On July 16, 2010 he hit for the cycle (including grand slam) against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
After being drafted by the Rangers in 1996, it was discovered he was missing an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow joint.
In his first year with the Rangers (1979), he recorded 29 saves and was named the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year, finished 4th in the Cy Young vote, and was 11th in the MVP vote.
